Located alongside the Bay around 9M SE of Cabo da Roca and 4M W of the entry to the Port of Lisbon (38º42’N and 09º25’W), the area surrounding Cascais Marina is endowed with the ideal characteristics for practising Sea Sports, particularly Sailing, and experienced sailors even regard it as one of the best stretches of water in the world.
Inaugurated in 1999 Cascais Marina has also been charged with preserving for posterity the History of Portugal and of the Great Portuguese, the Age of the Discoveries and of the Expansion.
It was in the Bay of Cascais that Nicolau Coelho, the first captain of Vasco da Gama’s navy to arrive in India, landed to give news of this discovery to the King of Portugal.
Many other episodes from the history of Portugal which were born of the Sea and made the Sea its way of life for centuries took place in this same Bay of Cascais.
From the inspiration and persistence taken from these forefathers, Cascais Marina has become an ambitious project for the 21st Century catering for the Environment and New Technologies.
The structure of the Marina and the range of services offered with 650 Mooring Berths allow it to accommodate vessels up to 36 metres long with a maximum permitted draught of 6 metres. At the outer harbour, in a protected area, it receives large-scale yachts and in the technical area it provides cranes and a 70-tonne gantry crane with the possibility of carrying out a wide range of maintenance operations.
A 2000 m2 Events Platform was built from scratch to accommodate the big Nautical Competitions which allows the creation of spaces for Competitors, the Press and Organisations.
It was on the Events Platform that the “ISAF Sailing World Championship 2007” welcomed all those involved in this major Competition – 1700 Sailors from 74 Countries. The approximately 145 boats of the Organisation was also based at Cascais Marina.
In the last few months Cascais Marina has prepared its services in order to provide the best offers and conditions to its visitors.
Now endowed with an Events’ Platform with an area of over 2000m2 to host a wide range of actions, the creation of a new Tourist/Maritime Berth, a renewed Quay for Megayachts as well as the extension to the Breakwater have enhanced this facility which won over its space from the ocean waves. Also worthy of special mention is the safety afforded to all users with the construction of the sophisticated Helipoint.
Hospitality, Providing a good Welcome, Safety, Operationality and the Provision of Good Services are just some of the bywords of Cascais Marina.
Whether you enter by Land or Sea, there are various facilities available in the area around Cascais Marina, be it Restaurants, Nautics, Utilities and Fashion facilities.
A new underground Car Park with around 600 places will allow the greater comfort of visitors to the Marina or to the users thereof.
